“We are our own medicine.”
BeLoved Black Men™ is a term of endearment and a call to action created by Dr. Shawna Marie, founder and CEO of Healing Truth Center. The BeLoved Black Men™ wellness and liberation initiative was established to directly engage and support U.S. American Black men ages 30-70, develop a community of trained wellness professionals to effectively work with Black men, and create a movement of caring informed others who are invested in supporting Black men.
Dr. Shawna Marie created BeLoved Black Men™ based on her love for Black men as well as a deep understanding of the ways Black men are dehumanized, objectified, harmed, reduced, and rendered invisible in life as well as in health and wellness systems. The lack of culturally-informed interventions and professional training specifically addressing the mental health and wellness of middle adult aged Black men is evidence of their invisibility. Believing that love is the antidote to the harm Black men endure, Dr. Shawna Marie has answered by creating the BeLoved Black Men™ initiative and learning academy.
